In early 1909, a group of 34 like-minded golfers came together and formed the Troon Municipal Golf League. They started competing in April and played throughout the year in a round-robin matchplay league. At the first Annual Business and Social meeting held in the clubhouse on December 29th, 1909, the members decided to continue their successful venture under the new name of Troon St Meddans Golf Club. The cumulative sweep, which was adopted, was paid out at the end of the year during the meeting.

Undoubtedly, the primary driving force behind the establishment of St. Meddans was Mr. James C. White, our esteemed first Club Secretary. Few individuals deserve greater recognition for their contributions to the club over the past century. His unwavering enthusiasm and determination played a crucial role in the early success of St. Meddans, earning him immense respect from all members and associates.

Having pursued a successful engineering career both at sea and on land, Mr. White later settled down as a skilled club maker associated with the Municipal Courses. His dedication to the club and his town was evident as he resided in a house named Barfad on Harling Drive. His passion for the club was truly unparalleled.
