Competition Rules
General
- A competition card may not be submitted for more than one Golf Club competition.
- A strokeplay round may not be played in conjunction with a matchplay competition.
- A minimum of ten competitors is required to establish a qualifying club competition. Where fewer than ten competitors enter, scores will be acceptable for handicapping purposes; however, the competition will be abandoned and re-arranged where possible.
Note: This requirement does not apply to finals that form the continuation and conclusion of an existing competition. The Committee will rule on this where applicable.
- Divisions will be determined by the number of entrants and, where relevant, by handicap ranges. The Committee reserves the right to adjust divisions to ensure fair and competitive fields.
- Members playing in Club competitions must play in groups of two, three, or four. Four-ball medal play is permitted throughout the year; however, the Committee reserves the right to restrict or prohibit four-ball medal play at any time.
- Members are expected to split groups to accommodate single players where required, either before starting (where nearby tee times are available) or, if necessary, during play on the course.
Entry
- The competitor must be a fully paid-up member of the Club.
- Before starting their round, the competitor must book into the competition via the Scottish Golf app, create a scorecard, and start the round in the app.
Members are expected to assist in the efficient running of competitions by ensuring their scorecard is submitted promptly. Failure to do so, without a reasonable excuse, may result in a sanction at the discretion of the Committee.
Sweeps
- Entry into the competition sweep is optional. If entering, competitors must do so before commencing their round by booking into the Sweep and/or Two’s competition alongside the main competition in the Scottish Golf app.
- Only competitors who have entered the competition sweep may enter the Two’s sweep.
- All sweep winnings and Two’s prizes will be credited to the individual member’s Competition Account.
- The sweep fund will be divided among eligible entrants who score a two during the competition, on the basis that one two equals one share. A hole-in-one will count as two shares.
- A two scored on a No Return (NR) card will count, provided the card is properly completed and submitted. A two scored on a card that is disqualified from the competition will not count.
- If no eligible twos are recorded, the sweep money will be carried forward to the next corresponding competition.
- Sweep divisions may differ from the main competition and will be determined in accordance with the General Competition Rules.
Note: Failure to enter the sweep before play will eliminate the competitor from the sweep only and will not disqualify them from the competition.
Marking of Scorecards
- Scorecards must be marked by the competitor’s playing partner, who must be a member of an affiliated golf club or otherwise acceptable to the Committee.
- On completion of the round, the competitor must check the score recorded for each hole before confirming submission.
- Any corrections must be agreed between the player and marker and made before final submission.
Return of Scorecards
Method of Return
- All competition scorecards must be returned electronically via the Scottish Golf app.
- Paper scorecards, if used, are for reference only unless the Committee specifies otherwise.
Responsibility
- The marker is responsible for entering the player’s hole-by-hole scores into the app.
- The player is responsible for checking that all scores are correct before confirming submission.
Accuracy and Alterations
- Scores must be entered hole by hole and must reflect the actual strokes taken.
- All corrections must be made before final submission.
- Once submitted, scores cannot be altered by the player, marker, or Committee.
Confirmation
- A scorecard is deemed officially returned when it has been digitally submitted and confirmed in the Scottish Golf app.
- Both player and marker must complete any required confirmation steps.
Time Limits
- Scorecards must be submitted as soon as practicable after completion of the round and no later than any time specified in the competition conditions.
- Failure to submit within the required time may result in disqualification or other sanction at the discretion of the Committee.
Technical Issues
- If the Scottish Golf app is unavailable due to technical problems, the Committee must be informed immediately.
- In such cases, competitors must complete a written scorecard accurately and in full, available from the starters’ desk.
- The completed card should be photographed and emailed to: secretary@troonstmeddansgolfclub.com.
- The Committee may accept an alternative method of score return at its discretion.
Disqualification
- A competitor will be disqualified for an infringement of the Rules of Golf or for failure to comply with these Competition Rules where specified.
Ball Lifted
- If a competitor decides to lift their ball and does not continue their round, the marker must indicate the affected hole(s) by selecting “Not Attempted” or “Pick Up” on the Scottish Golf app scorecard.
- If a ball is accidentally or incorrectly lifted and there is doubt as to the correct procedure or score, the competitor must play two balls in accordance with Rule 20.1c:
- One ball played as if the original ball were lost; and
- One ball played by replacing the uplifted ball at a spot agreed between the competitor and the marker.
Playing for Handicap
- A member without a handicap will be allocated one after submitting three scorecards. At least two of these must be from St Meddans medal competitions played alongside members of the Club.
- New members may not sign each other’s cards when both are playing for handicap without the prior approval of the Committee.
- A member may not enter a Club competition until they have been allocated a handicap.
